A
town full of history & charm

The streets of Gulgong wind between quaint clapboard and iron buildings complete with verandahs and iron lace, offering a look back to the hustle and bustle of the old gold mining town in the 1800's.

Gulgong is a delightful town, full of surprises and flashbacks to the original lifestyle that put our wonderful town on the map.

Enjoy hearing stories of Tom Saunders, Henry Lawson and other Australian's that have fallen in love with the charm of this heritage town.

The Ten Dollar Town, Gulgong

Many visitors have asked why our Motel is called the Ten Dollar Town Motel, possibly hoping it is because we charge $10 for a room!! The real reason is that our beautiful Gulgong used to be featured on the $10 note along side Henry Lawson as pictured here. Our Motel is located right in the middle of town so it only seemed right we named the Motel in celebration of this.

Once a bustling gold mining area the region now produces gold of another kind in the form of the golden merino fleece and the golden grain from the wheat fields. The ground is still rich with minerals, producing coal, clay and magnetite. In recent times the area has become a prominent wine growing plus horse and cattle breeding area.

But more important to the town is the bustling tourist industry which has developed over the years as more and more people take time to discover their roots and explore a unique part of Australia’s heritage.
